Managerial communication is different from other kinds of communication. Why? Because in a commerce, trade or management setting, a intelligent message alone isn’t sufficient: you are successful only provided your message leads to the response you longing from your audience. Therefore, instead of visualizing communication as a straight line from a sender to a receiver, ponder of communication as a circle, as shown below, with the audience’s response as one of its critical elements.
To receive the desired audience response, you need to ponder strategically approximately your communication – before you start to write or conversation. Strategic communication is based on five interactive variables:
- communicator (the writer or speaker) strategy;
- Audience strategy;
- The message strategy;
- Channel selection strategy;
- Cultural context strategy.
Be certain to consider how the variables impact each other. For example, your audience analysis affects your communicator fashion, your channel selection might impact your message, and the cultural context might impact your channel selection.
