Netiquette – A way to behave online.

Netiquette – A way to behave online.

Perhaps this term is not so famous amongst people. This is a ‘technical’ word not so used, you might ask, what is this?

Simple, it is formed from the terms Network Etiquette, an etiquette over the network. Generally the network referred to is the biggest network ever, the internet of course. It is a way of ‘manners’ on how to ‘behave’ online. It is a way of having rules online, basic things that can even come out from common sense, basic things such as, perhaps when you were young your parent used to tell you ‘use the fork, don’t eat with your hands’, that is a way of behaving while eating.

Now netiquette is basically the same basic things but obviously in a way on how to behave online. Rules may vary, for example now I’m writing this article, right, would you want to read this article in SMS language and full of acronyms, well I don’t think so. So that is a way of netiquette, but as said before not all rules apply at all circumstances, for example while on IRC, SMS language and acronyms are accepted on most Channels, so you see? The same rule is not accepted in one place but accepted into another.

While on forums, do you want someone to spam the forums with rubbish posts such as “Selling mobiles starting from $1, visit www…..com” with a huge font to ‘attract’ attention, well that too is a rule of Netiquette of no spamming. And back to IRC do you want a spammer saying the same sentence for like 50 times with copy/paste, and you end with a big lag? Well I don’t think so.

Now here are some rules for you, perhaps you will learn some ‘Netiquette’

Forum etiquette

Ø Certain rules of unspoken etiquette are recommended to be followed when using Internet forums.

Ø One should read all the rules and guidelines established by the community. One should always be courteous to other forum members.

Ø Before creating a new topic thread, one is advised to search to see if a similar topic already exists.

Ø Contributors should follow standard grammar and spelling rules and avoid slang. Leet speak is sometimes accepted.

Ø If the forum is categorized, one should strive to post in the correct section.

Ø Contributors are asked to stay on-topic.

Ø Contributors should avoid double posting and Cross posting.

Ø Contributors should avoid the use of all CAPITAL LETTERS in posts.

Ø When quoting a previous post, one should only include the relevant portion of that post.

E-mail etiquette

Ø Compared to Usenet, the smaller audience and more reliable delivery method means the flow of conversation is often clear.

Ø A business e-mail account should not be used for personal correspondence. If the original message was sent to multiple recipients, one should only reply to users for whom your message is pertinent.

Ø For mailing list administrators, including instructions for unsubscribing at the bottom of messages is considered good form.

Ø Uppercase letters imply shouting and may be considered rude.

Ø Subject lines are critical to proper email etiquette. A subject line should include a pertinent few words summarizing the subject of the email.

Ø When one replies to emails, they should always make certain the subject line of the email is still relevant to the reply.

Ø When one has not received a reply to a business email, it is customary to send an inquiry message within two to five business days if a reply is expected. Email content should be universally accessible.

IRC etiquette

Ø The etiquette established for IRC is similar to much of standard netiquette.

Ø It is polite to publicly request a private conversation first, for example.

Ø Flooding a channel with notifications of change of nickname, or other off-topic material, should be avoided since other participants generally find it annoying.

Ø Unless the rules of the channel state otherwise, advertising is unwelcome.

I-Doser – The new Virtual Drugs, but Real effects

I-Doser – The new Virtual Drugs, but Real effects

Well, you might say, what is this? I tell you, this is a new software that will make soothing and strange sounds to emulate the effect of a specific drug as you listen to them, so the drug is virtual because it is actually a sound from your PC, but it is said that you will feel the effect of that drug for real.

They have a huge collection of drugs to choose from and you can feel it’s effect for real. It is, for now, legal. So what will be the effects of this new ‘I-Doser’?

Will this make new and more drug addicts? Because it is still legal? Or it will make the contrary, reduce the drug addicts from taking real drugs and use this new system?

Will the I-Doser company take over the drug market and sell drugs legally… can you imagine this? They will sell drugs to anyone because they are selling it legal, and be the most powerful company? Because it sells drugs? And as we all know, although illegal it still brings a lot of money, so imagine if it was legal, and as the I-Doser company will have the only doses, they can make the prices as high as they want to!

Well I can’t actually imagine this happening, but as it will get more clients, and will get more famous and known amongst the people, who knows, it will take over the ‘legal drug selling market’. And as more people will get addicted to this, because I think if the drug effect is real then even it’s side effect will be therefore people will get drug addicts.

Can you imagine that even more and more people will buy these drugs? And more people will end up as addicts to it? Well perhaps now most people are not drug addicts perhaps because they are sold illegally, but what about this? It is, and perhaps will stay, legal, therefore more people will override their fear, because now it’s legal, and end up as slaves of drugs, spending all their money on the doses?

Yes, if people can get addicts to this, they will end up buying doses every time… Why? Because their software will just play the doze file only once, it will not let you play it a second time, therefore you will have to buy the doze file another time if you want to get that effect again. So in that manner you will be like consuming real drugs, you use it once and then if you want more you have to buy more, you can’t ‘recycle’ it.

I am asking to myself, why? Why did they make it in this way? Why not like other commercial/shareware software? Just buy the program once with all the doses and drugs and that’s it? Why you have to buy the dose over and over again? Perhaps because they know that people will get addicted therefore will have to buy them again, therefore that means more revenue for the I-Doser company.

I have all these questions… and to answer them all I have to make is, wait and wait to see what will happen when this company will get famous and more famous, and people will end up buying more and more… The only things is that as this is a new thing, people might say… come on let’s try it we have nothing to loose, well we will see about that. If this company will make success it can either reduce drug addicts from taking real drugs, or it can make things worst and encourage more drug addicts, all we have to do is… wait.

How to install applications and games on a PocketPC

How to install applications and games on a PocketPC

To install applications on a PC is quite simple, and there are 2 ways that are the most used, one method is just run the setup and you are done, then there is another method of having a Zip file and just extracting it.

Well on a PocketPC there are more steps to be included, to start off with there are 3 mostly used methods on how to install applications on a PocketPC. Although it is pretty simple, still you need to make certain steps, and take precautions too!

All these methods need that the PocketPC is first of all connected to the computer via Bluetooth, Infra-Red, Cradle, or USB cable. Then it needs to be synced with ActiveSync or similar programs, if this is not done, of course nothing will be installed on your PocketPC

Anyways, to start off with you need too see if the program you are going to install is compatible with your PocketPC, because PocketPC’s are not as compatible as normal Windows computers are, for example most, nearly all the programs are compatible with Windows 98, 2000, ME, XP and nearly all the other Operating Systems, but to PocketPC’s it is different, a program might or might not be fully compatible with your PocketPC. There are various factors that affect this like, what ROM version you are running, your PocketPC processor and much more things.

Secondly you need to have one of the following to install a program on your PocketPC, you need either a Zipped version of the program (or standalone version), or a CAB installation file, or a normal Setup (the same as when installing a normal PC application)

Thirdly check that you have enough Memory for Storage on your PocketPC and that after installation you will have enough memory for Programs to run (like RAM) the program. It is highly advisable to buy a Storage Card, something like SD, or miniSD or whatever your PocketPC takes.

Now as to the actual installation, so check that the program is compatible and that your PocketPC is synced with ActiveSync. Now that everything is ready here are the main 3 ways of installation:-

If you have a Zipped, therefore a .zip compressed file, version or a Standalone version of the Program you just need to *extract the zipped file to somewhere you want, let’s say Desktop*. Then just Copy the extracted folder/file onto your PocketPC to where you want it, Storage Card is advisable, although some programs might not run well from the Storage Card, but most programs are most likely to work. Then open that folder from your PocketPC with File Explorer, copy the main .exe program (the main file that will run the program) and create a shortcut on the start menu by going into the Windows Folder and select Start Menu, the go into Programs and press right click and select ‘Paste as Shortcut’, and you will have s shortcut into the Start Menu/Programs directory, just as normal installation setups will do.
*If you have a standalone version skip this step.

If you have a .CAB file then you have to copy that .CAB file onto your PocketPC with ActiveSync, then just run the .CAB file from your PocketPC, if you want to install the application into a different location apart from the Main Memory, like Storage Card then you have to install a program like ‘CAB installer’ and choose a different location from the CAB installer (nearly all, if not all, have this option).

Now for the most common way of installation, the Setup file. Most of the people try to copy the whole setup file on their PocketPC and try to run it from there (it will show an error), well no, that is wrong, totally wrong. You have to run the Setup file from your Desktop Computer or Laptop, then if your PocketPC is synced, ActiveSync will popup and it will ask you if you want to install the program into the default folder (Meaning into the Main Memory/Program Files) well if you want to install it into the main memory then press OK or Yes, if you want to install it into the Storage Card then press Cancel, or No. Then another window will pop up with a drop-down box, select Storage Card and press OK, and the program will be installed into the Storage Card, then the .CAB file will be copied and ran into your PocketPC, you might ask.. What .CAB, I have the setup file, yes indeed, the setup file just extracts a .CAB file, then the .CAB will be copied to your PocketPC and ran and the installation destination will be the one you chose from ActiveSync (Main Memory or Storage Card), then it will be installed.

As a last tip, if you intend to install a lot of programs on your PocketPC then use a Storage Card, you can buy one for a few bucks from eBay, or you will end up using all the Main Memory of the PocketPC and end up with no ‘RAM’ (Program Memory) and then you will not be able to run any programs, try leaving the Main Memory for Program Memory, and use a Storage Card as Program Installation Memory.
